// The escalation of these procedures is being driven by a couple of factors, 1) the economy is bad 2) these procedures are cheaper and more widespread 3) the military can give dishonorable discharges to soldiers who fail to make weight/tape. I think the requirements are too arbitrary and that the military should stick with simple physical fitness requirements (run times, strength testing, etc) but I'm just a civvie.
