Quote:"But he admitted that the labor participation rate typically moves up as unemployed workers return to the job market seeking unemployment. So far, that has not happened. The labor force participation rate actually decline from 71.9 percent in December to 71.7 percent in January.
// As grammatically awful as that sentence is, it does indicate that 1000 people have left the job market since December, meaning that the 2000 jobs added number and the concurrent dip in unemployment are not terribly impressive. It is good news, but lets see how things continue before celebrating.

A puppy euthanized by veterinarians has risen from the "dead."The black-and-white pooch was one of five young dogs "put to sleep" Saturday at a shelter in Sulphur, Okla., News 9 in Oklahoma City reported. Each dog was checked and confirmed to be dead, then the 3-month-old and his four siblings were placed in a trash bin.
On Sunday morning, an animal control officer looked into the bin and discovered that the one pup somehow survived.

Quote:"The court voted 8-1 in favor of the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan. The decision upheld an appeals court ruling that threw out a $5 million judgment to the father of a dead Marine who sued church members after they picketed his son's funeral.
Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the opinion for the court. Justice Samuel Alito dissented.

Quote:"
The TSA spokeswoman Davis insisted that the traveling public was not at risk."There have been a number of additional security layers that have been implemented on aircraft that would prevent someone from causing harm with boxcutters," she insisted.
"They include the possible presence of armed federal air marshals, hardened cockpit doors, flight crews trained in self-defense and a more vigilant traveling public who have demonstrated a willingness to intervene."
// I would actually agree with the above quote. There really is no need to keep small blades off aircrafts. After 9-11, no pilot is going to relinquish controls of their aircraft, let alone allow anyone into a cockpit. I think hijacking, at least for American airliners, is over. The focus should be on catching explosives and guns.

Quote:"Until I began researching his career, I had the impression that Harper was absolutely dreadful throwing out runners; the Matthew LeCroy of the 1990s. However, the actual numbers don't back that up. From 1988 to 1990 he threw out 35 percent of steal attempts, which was solidly above the league average of 31 percent. For comparison Laudner's career mark with the Twins was a shade under 30 percent, including just 27 percent between 1988 and 1989.
What likely cemented Harper's reputation as a poor thrower was his 22 percent rate in 1991. The season everyone remembers was Harper's worst, and backup Junior Ortiz gunned down 46 percent in limited duty. Plus, the Blue Jays and Braves ran a ton on Harper in the playoffs, going 11-for-14 in 12 games. Harper made up for much of that by going 13-for-39 (.333) with four doubles, but the idea that you could easily run on him stuck for the rest of his career."
// Great piece.
