Open Letter to Flash
Dear Flash,
Somehow, someway, someone got the idea that it was easier to attack the person rather than their argument. So long ago, in fact, that there is a Latin term for the fallacy, ad hominum. While one may think ad hominum attacks in all their interesting permutations are somehow persuasive, they really prove nothing. You should be more concerned with argument validity and factual reliability than the employment status of someone with whom you disagree.
You might suggest to me, in response, that the people obsessed with George Soros’ money are also at fault here, and you are partially right. Where the MinMon gets its money should be of much less importance than the facts and arguments found on their website. Fortunately, this is precisely what the “Scaifenet” bloggers have done over the past year. The only reason many of us have been led to inquire into the finances of the MinMon and related websites is because their arguments and facts always seem so tainted. In this sense, it appears where they get their money is an identifiable motive. Yet as I said, you’re just a little bit correct. But what, may I ask here, motivates you? Certainly it is not an appreciation of logic or argumentation.
Yours,
Marty
