Arlen Specter

The guy switched parties. It happens. The only thing to do now is focus on finding a good candidate to give him a solid test in 2010. “The most conservative candidate who can win” is the rule of thumb and I think there are Republicans in Penn who fit the bill. Pat Toomey may or may not be that guy (presently, he’s the only guy). Toomey represented a district which leaned Democrat and won with comfortable margins three times and kept a promise to only serve three terms. He’s very well spoken and a successful businessman. If he is the guy he needs to focus on attacking the bailouts for Wall Street and the pork laden stimulus bills.

  1. this news reminds me of how disgusted I am in my fellow Minnesotans who voted for Franken. There is no way that many people who voted for Franken are that far left. But Marty, you are right. Need to move on and focus on the next battle…before it’s too late.

  2. I couldn’t say it any better than Mark Hemingway from NRO’s The Corner blog: “I read that he was switching parties, but I was disappointed to learn he’s still a Democrat.”

    Whatever. Good riddance.

  3. My only question is this, when the White House backed Specter over Toomey, did Bush look into Specter’s soul and see Putin?
